About Me
Hi! I'm Simon Mollema, or molzy
, if you like.
Interests
I have written about many of my interests on the Home page.
Employment-Related Interests
More relevantly as far as the job market is concerned, I also enjoy the following.
- Software Engineering - Building the tools that ease and enhance business operations.
- User Experience (UX) Design - Ensuring a clear visual layout, and consistent behaviours.
- Network Security - Any network is only as strong as its weakest exposed link.
- Penetration Testing - Assessing the possibility of breaking into almost anything.
- Robust Scripting & Automation - Giving computers clear instructions.
- Systems Administration - Both cloud and on-premises.
Products & Projects
I have created exactly one monetised software product in the past, for the Mac OS platform.
It was called One PDF, and was available for purchase between 2014 and 2016. The download button on the linked promotional page will provide a free copy of the application, and you are also able to browse the source code, with full commit history.
There are other minor projects available to view in the same location.
Employment
I have been employed in the Audio Visual industry for a number of years.
In the context of new projects, this mostly involves installations in meeting rooms, classrooms, or lecture theaters. In order to make presentations and collaboration easier in those rooms, we add some technology. Typically this consists of a TV or projector, some speakers, and a programmable controller to turn devices in the room on or off at the press of a button.
Often, there is much more technology involved behind the scenes in order to support switching between multiple video inputs, lecture recordings, videoconferencing, and anything else that could be automated.
As a Systems Programmer in this industry, I have:
- Written control automation software for education and corporate clients.
- Applied prior web development skills, in an industry currently transitioning to web technologies.
- Developed a unified room automation codebase for a major University, to replace closed source code.
- Overseen deployment of said codebase to the University classrooms and lecture theaters.
- Delivered many projects through to a successful conclusion, often under budget, by applying scripting automation techniques for repetitive technical work wherever possible.
Prior to the Systems Programmer role, I started out as an Installation Technician. While in that role, I have:
- Completed hands-on project work for education and corporate clients, installing sound and video equipment in boardrooms, lecture theaters and office spaces.
- Gained experience in low-voltage electrical work, and seeing projects through to a successful conclusion; both individually and as part of a hard-working team.
Study
I have recently completed the Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) certification exam, in order to gain an entry-level credential within the Information Security field. You can view more information about this certification by clicking on the below badge.
In addition to this, I have been participating in security challenges on the Hack The Box platform. My profile information can be found by clicking on the below badge, and you can also read my writeups of completed challenges.
The goal of my participation in Hack The Box is to learn which tools are used for analysis and exploitation of a variety of protocols, and how to use them efficiently. A side goal is to be exposed to unfamiliar software.
I have completed training for the products of numerous Audio Visual equipment producers, such as Crestron (P101, P201, P301, NVX), and QSC Q-SYS (Level 1, Level 2, Control Levels 1 & 2).
I have also completed a Diploma of IT, and a Certificate IV in Computer Systems Technology, which are vocational tertiary qualifications in Australia.
Skills
My legal representation has advised that the following list of languages, technologies, and tools would be suitable for satiating the infamous Human Resources keyword filter. If any desired capabilities are not mentioned here, feel free to ask about any experience I may have had with them.
Thanks!
Thank you for reading this far! I hope you have a nice day.
